Denyse Schmidt

I've had a love for Denyse Schmidt ever since I saw her in Martha Stewart Living years ago. Her quilt, drunk love, caught my eye and I've been in love with the idea of it ever since.

Apparently she is doing quite well, too. Because when it was featured in the mag it was listed at $900 and now they are selling for $6000 ea.!!

Props to her, though. She has a book of patterns, which I am currently lusting over. She even has her own fabric line!

All that said, here's some photos of her quilts, quilts made from her book, and her fabrics.

Inspired by Drunk Love. Love the gray/white

Don't you just love the colors of this?!

I love the originality here!

If I had the money and time to buy the fabric and sit and make quilts all day long -I'd definitely make tons of these quilts!

A nice little trip

This is why I've been slacking:

Dance Party

Tiny Dancer

Outdoor concerts are oh so fun. I have the reddest sunburn on my nose, but the rest of my face is still very white. Even my cheeks somehow escaped the sun. Having a job interview with a bright red rudolph nose and white face was interesting. I guess they didn't really care, because they still asked me to join their "team".

Me on the left. The lovely Laura on the right.

I'm going on a trip tomorrow-Friday, and I've decided to bring a book on positive thinking along with me. And a notebook to take notes on the positive thinking. I'll be without internet, and this scares me a little bit. 4 days without my favorite blogs and flickr photos?!?

It's ok, I'll be taking pictures like crazy and just enjoying myself. I hope you all enjoy your week!

Rachel Denbow

Guys, go check out Rachel Denbow's blog. I'm in a never ending quest for great blogs to read. Hers just plain ol' makes me happy in my heart. Look what colorful [and fun!] pictures! Really awesome stuff.

That's all for now. Summer is getting busy! My mom's birthday was yesterday and I made cupcakes and embroidered on an old apron for her present. 2 more birthdays this week and then free of them for a month.

Enjoy your summer day!

Scott Waterman

So much. Today I want to feature another amazing artist. Scott Waterman.

I'd write a little thing on Scott, but his words seems to fit best:

I'm primarily a painter who who uses mostly water based media -acrylic on canvas and paper. In the past I've done large commission pieces (murals) which began as small proposal sketches (watercolor on paper). I developed such a fondness for the sketch phase that now most of my work is watercolor, ink and guoache on paper.

I've posted a number of pictures of my studios past and present.

Recently one of my small paper pieces did get translated into a much larger work on canvas for a special installation at the Standard Hotel in Hollywood. The special installation aspect has to do with a part of my painting copied and printed on plastic film that was mounted a couple of feet in front of the canvas. The effect made it possible to physically get into my work,. The pictures (probably) explain it better. I also made a scale model.

-Scott

He has made a living off his commissioned works, and they are hanging in all parts of the world, including Hong Kong, Paris, Uruguay, and more.

He also has a fine art website, but claims that flickr is the best way to see up to date work.

Lisa Congdon

This new blog is really quite addicting. It's so nice to write about things I love! Like warm days with cool breezes [keep the extra hot days, please].

Thought I'd let you in on another favorite artist of mine [as I plan to do indefinitely now].

Lisa Congdon. I absolutely adore her work - ah if only I could spend a day in her studio with her! She a San Fran based artist [we all know how much I love the Bay!]. She shows her art in amazing themed shows like "Anatomie" and "Lovely, Dark, and Deep". Her art will be in Portland coming up, but unfortunately it will be right after I move so I won't have the pleasure of finally viewing her art in person. She's also shown in San Fran, Seattle, LA, New York, and even Canada. She has been featured in multiple magazines including ReadyMade [one of my all time fave magazines], Bitch, Adorn, and Country Living. You can find her on the web at:
Her website
Her flickr
Her blog

I'm motivated to deep clean the bathroom today. I love seeing everything sparkle when I'm done!
